Muddy Paws Pup Zion In Recovery After Successful Surgery!

DUKE AND DIXIE - THE DYNAMIC DUO

Two weeks ago, we welcomed Zion into our Muddy Paws Pack through the Animal Care Centers of NYC’s #NewHopePartner program. At about 8 years old, Zion is a golden gal with a heart of gold to match and comes with a couple of health quirks (allergies & sensitive skin) that need extra TLC. After arriving in her foster home, Zion appeared to be having trouble breathing. In the weeks since, Zion and her incredible foster mama Rachel (read more about Rachel below!) have made many trips to the vet. Last week, Zion was diagnosed with an elongated soft palate that was partially blocking her airway and necessitated surgical correction in order to improve her breathing.

We are so happy to announce that on June 4th, Zion underwent a successful surgery! Muddy Paws would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone's outpouring support and generosity for Zion. Not only did we reach our fundraising goal of $5,000 (!), but our sweetest gal is also recovering comfortably in her foster home. Thanks to YOU, Zion will have the best chance possible at finding her forever home!

To continue helping us help sweet foster pups like Zion, please consider donating — any amount is helpful! Your support is truly essential as we work to save the lives of countless other animals in need.

For Zion, her surgery was just the beginning — her recovery period over the next couple of weeks will be critical to her journey to becoming healthier. Thankfully, Zion’s wonderful foster mama Rachel has been giving her the 'round- the-clock care she needs to get better as soon as she can! Rachel says Zion is doing great so far and is taking it day by day.

We are so thankful for Rachel who is willing to help Zion in any way possible!

Rachel is a first-time foster who has been incredibly attentive to Zion's needs, giving her frequent baths to soothe her irritated skin and ensuring that Zion takes her medicine on time (despite Rachel living in a brand new apartment without even her own bed set up)!

After learning about Zion's diagnosis, Rachel says she is her "foster soul-mate.” We learned that Rachel had a similar experience ten years ago when she had airway surgery to ease her own breathing. There's truly no one better who understands and empathizes with the discomfort Zion is experiencing right now.

We continue to count our lucky stars to have fosters like Rachel who love the dogs that come through our Muddy Paws Pack and give them such a special, warm home. Thank you for loving our Zion, Rachel!
