Duke and Dixie — our bonded mother and son duo — are our second feature in our 12 Days of Happy Tails!

This dynamic duo first came into our partner shelter in Kentucky together and was joined at the hip for all their low-riding adventures. They were quickly adopted after arriving in NYC in 2017, but it, unfortunately, didn’t work out and they found themselves back in our foster homes earlier this year. Duke & Dixie were always on their best behavior at our adoption events, but being a bonded pair in a big, busy city, there was very little interest for them.

Nevertheless, Duke & Dixie still waited patiently for their forever home, knowing that it was just a matter of time before someone would want them to become part of their family.

After two months of waiting, their day had finally come! Mason & Addison came to one of our adoption events and after spending some time with Duke & Dixie, decided they couldn’t leave without them.

Dixie enjoys watching over everyone from the top of the couch cushions. She’ll rarely bark, and instead uses her complex system of grumbles to let her humans know what she wants. She’s a champion snuggler, a bit of a toy hoarder, and she’s always ready for a game of tug or fetch.

Duke loves taking long walks and getting lots of belly scratches. In return, he gives kisses galore! His favorite place in the house is burrowed under as many blankets as possible in the bed, preferably with a warm buddy.

Although some pups take longer than others to find their forever homes, at the end of the day, they always end up right where they should be!

This holiday season, you can help make a difference in the lives of pups like Duke and Dixie.

You can continue to follow Duke & Dixie’s NYC adventures on their Instagram.
