12 Days of Happy Tails: Meet Sully

DUKE AND DIXIE - THE DYNAMIC DUO

As the year winds down, we're looking back on our incredible year of 2019 and all the lives that we've saved thanks to your support. We're delighted to share our 12 Days of Happy Tails — starting today, we will feature alumni, handpicked by our staff and volunteers, whose stories have touched our hearts.

Scared Sully & The Big City

Sully (formerly known as Curly) came to New York from our partner shelter in Kentucky. This petite curly-haired pup appeared to be perfect for a New Yorkers small apartment, but he was also incredibly fearful. Sully experienced his first instance of warmth in his foster home, but he was overwhelmed and skittish now that he was in the big city. And while he received a lot of interest when he first came available, we knew it would take a very special and patient person to be his forever family.

Becca says that when she first met Sully he was scared of “everything and everyone he encountered.” For the first week in his new home, he wouldn’t leave his crate unless Becca carried him to go potty. He shook when he visited the dog park. He would jump when he heard noises on his walks outside.
But Becca knew there was a confident and silly guy buried beneath that scared exterior. She gave Sully a lot of love and patience and nearly a year after forming their family - Sully has overcome all of his original fears: “Everything that used to scare him he now doesn't even flinch at! And this includes his former biggest fear, sliding doors. He’s mastered the unleashed area of the park and gets full on zoomies when he’s there!"

Becca considers herself lucky to have been able to adopt Sully and we know Sully is happier and more confident than ever now that he’s found his forever family with Becca. And we are so happy that they found each other!

This holiday season, you can make a difference in the lives of pups like Sully. Make a gift today to help more pups find their forever homes in 2020.
