A Wobbly Start to a Beautiful Life: Eevee's Story

When 5-month-old Eevee first arrived from our partner shelter in Kentucky this past May, her foster noticed that she seemed a bit…different. Eevee looked off balance when she walked, and would topple over without seeming to slip on anything.

Thankfully, the medical team at Pure Paws Veterinary Care was able to rule out distemper and anything contagious. They concluded that Eevee has cerebellar hypoplasia, or CH, meaning the part of Eevee’s brain that controls her movement never fully developed. We knew that Eevee will spend her life being a bit wobbly, but she can also live a very long and happy life with this diagnosis. Less than two months later, Eevee’s adoption day finally arrived when she met Victoria.

“Her wobbly disability actually hooked us, we found it so endearing” said Victoria. “The best part is, she has no idea she’s different! She acts like any other pup. She will jump off our apartment steps with confidence, only to stumble or fall at the bottom 8 times out of 10. But that’s what we love about her - she’s just Eevee. She’s bold and carefree.”

We make a commitment to every dog in our care to provide them with the support they need to live their best lives - no matter what.

When reflecting on her experience, Victoria said “Muddy Paws is an extremely professional, informative, and supportive organization. I’m not sure what I would have done had I not had Eevee’s foster mamas (Katie and Tate) to lean on and ask questions. They have been beyond helpful and have made this transition for Eevee and myself so seamless.”

With just over one week left to go in the Pack Challenge, we are asking for your help to meet our goal of raising at least $250,000 for our foster dogs. “Eevee has completed our family in a way I’m not sure either of us knew was possible. She has already taught us so much about selflessness, unconditional love, patience, courage, and living in the moment. We love her more each day, and we are so happy she is finally home.”
