National Nonprofit Petco Love Grants $2,100 to Muddy Paws Rescue to Assist with Pet Cancer Treatment

Muddy Paws Rescue recently received a $2,100 grant from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of adopted dog Blaze, who was in need of specialized emergency care.

Blaze’s adopters reached out to Muddy Paws in June when an unexpected health concern threatened to force the family to make an impossible choice. The cost for the removal of a mast cell tumor on Blaze’s leg and another lump on her head, in addition to biopsies, was more than Blaze’s family could afford. Through the Petco Love PCA Shelter Pet Cancer Treatment Fund, Blaze was able to get the treatment she needed and remain with her family.

“No adopter should have to choose between treating a potentially life-threatening health condition, or relinquishing their beloved pet because they can’t afford it,” said Emily Trost, Programs Director at Muddy Paws Rescue. “Our goal is always to find a loving home for our pups, and do whatever we can to keep them in those homes. This lifesaving investment from Petco Love allows us to keep Blaze with her family who loves her, and still get the treatment she needs to save her life.”

“At Petco Love, we know pets are family. When our pets have health issues, we want to treat the problem, but also keep them comfortable at home with the ones they love,” said Petco Love President Susanne Kogut. “The Petco Love PCA Shelter Pet Cancer Treatment Fund enables pet parents to get the medical treatment they need for their adopted pets, and keep the pets with the families that love them.”

Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $350 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like Muddy Paws Rescue — across North America, with 6.7 million pets adopted and counting.
